Marzamemi from the sea: a village outside time
Explore the coastal village of Marzamemi on a boat trip and wander through the charming narrow streets of the fishing village.
Marzamemi
Looking at Marzamemi from the sea restores the true essence of the village by taking it back to a time when its Tonnara was the heart of the village’s vitality. It is a place where the sea and its riches have become a fundamental limb belonging to the same body.
Itinerary
The trip departs from Syracuse’s Molo Sant’Antonio, setting off to explore a sea steeped in history and tradition. Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
Arriving at the Marzamemi harbour, one is greeted by a boat equipped with a transparent resin glass bottom that allows to admire the seabed in a new and immersive way: it is like swimming carried along by the current in search of each single underwater creature.
During the boat tour, it is possible to admire the ancient Roman columns and then stop for a relaxing swim in the transparent waters. The coastline of Marzamemi has the peculiarity of being a place where the water is particularly crystal clear, since it is in a scarcely inhabited area and adjacent to the Vendicari Oriented Nature Reserve. The experienced crew is available to guide you in discovering the seabed of great natural and archaeological value. Don’t forget your mask because by diving into this emerald water you can experience the life of a sailor on your own skin.
On the way back to the harbour, one is fascinated by the small fishing village of Marzamemi, where fishing nets dry in the Sicilian sun.
It is possible to wander freely among the craft shops and taste the local speciality: tuna and bottarga.
